Special Premium Content for Paid Subscribers
This week my published research has been focused on the month of October of 1966. This special Premium feature aligns with that as we take a look at the schedule of the NWA World Champion in October 1966, Gene Kiniski
October 1966 was another month in Gene Kiniski’s reign as NWA World Heavyweight Champion, a period in which the championship continued to connect wrestling territories across the United States and Canada. Nine months after defeating Lou Thesz for the title in St. Louis, Kiniski remained the traveling centerpiece of the National Wrestling Alliance, defending against established stars, drawing on the reputations of regional favorites, and carrying the championship into major wrestling markets.

Tracking The World Champions: Gene Kiniski, NWA World Heavyweight Champion, October 1966
This second special Premium feature The Evolution of Wrestling aligns with our look at 1966 as we take a look at the NWA World Tag Team Championship in the year of 1966.
In 1966 the NWA did not have one World Tag Team Championship.
It had a filing cabinet of them. Each member booking office could hang “NWA World Tag Team Champions” on a local pair, defend the belts only inside its towns, and still stay inside the Alliance. They could also invent regional tag team championship and attach the NWA brand to them if they were a member office.
That was not a bookkeeping error. It was the Consolidation-era solution to a problem the singles world title did not have: two men cannot tour the continent the way Gene Kiniski could with the NWA World Heavyweight Title..

The Pro Wrestling Time Tunnel History Show
Wednesday, October 14th, 2026:
This week on The Pro Wrestling Time Tunnel History Show,:
Episode 84 of The Pro Wrestling Time Tunnel History Show is a different kind of night — The “What If” Episode.
Segment 1:
We go back 40 years to the car accident that ended Magnum TA’s career. Jimmy Garvin joins the show as we look at the hot program the two of them had just started. What if that accident never happens? Where does the program go? Does it build into a World Title series between Magnum and Jimmy? How does Precious fit into the story? This one gets intriguing in a hurry.
Segment 2:
Mid-Atlantic analyst and historian Todd Goss returns. Todd and I dig into what a Magnum TA World Title run would have looked like. How would it have affected business in the Carolinas and across the NWA? We kick it around, chase a few other ideas, and see where the road might have led.
Segment 3:
Steve Gennerelli and Jammie Ward join me for another big “what if”: Ric Flair going to the WWWF in the 1980s. Several strong theories get tossed around — how it would have changed New York, the NWA, and the man himself.
Three segments. Three alternate histories. One episode built for territory fans who love the questions that never got answered.
📌 Episode 84 – The “What If” Episode is available now on Castos, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and all your usual platforms.
