I know there are several sources that list it as his place of birth, but he was born in Eugene, Oregon and grew up in the town of Creswell, Oregon, which is about 14 miles south of Eugene. I know that is a fact because I was told that by one of Tex's sons several years ago. From what I gathered, Tex got the cowboy gimmick because he participated in rodeo when he was growing up.
