June 1976 remained a whirlwind month for NWA World Heavyweight Champion Terry Funk, as the Amarillo-based titleholder continued his tireless travels across territories and internationally. He defended or prominently featured the championship in key stops while engaging in house show circuits, non-title bouts, and local rivalries that kept regional promotions strong. This period captured the essence of the NWA’s territorial model during fragmentation, with Funk as the unifying figure who drew crowds by facing top local stars and international challengers. His schedule included documented appearances in the U.S. heartland, Texas strongholds, and Japan.

Tracking The World Champions: Terry Funk NWA World Heavyweight Title - June 1976
In June 1986, Ric Flair stood at the absolute peak of his powers as NWA World Heavyweight Champion. The “Nature Boy” was in the midst of a dominant, money-drawing reign that had already stretched nearly two years. Flair embodied everything the NWA World Title represented in the territorial era: glamour, athletic excellence, psychological warfare, and box-office magnetism. While Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP) expanded its reach through the TBS superstation and prepared for its ambitious summer spectacle, Flair carried the gold across the Mid-Atlantic heartland, into Texas, and even into an AWA ring, all while the Four Horsemen stable (Flair, Arn Anderson, Ole Anderson, Tully Blanchard, and manager J.J. Dillon) asserted dominance and major angles boiled toward the Great American Bash tour.
