Pro Wrestling Time Tunnel Presents: The Evolution of Pro Wrestling Series
Introducing a new series for our Paid Subscribers, The Evolution of Pro Wrestling. This weekend, our paid subs will receive in their email inbox the very first entry into this brand-new series I am super excited about. I have been watching and studying the performance art of pro wrestling since becoming a fan 53 years ago in 1972.
The Evolution of Pro Wrestling is in itself, a very wild ride we will be taking in the Time Tunnel.
As a mixture of sport, athleticism and theater, professional wrestling has survived and evolved as cultural shifts and technology shifts have occurred over time periods.
Its morphed from the stages of traveling carnival and athletic shows to becoming a public shareholder driven company with global influence.
I will be looking at all those shifts in various parts of the world and I'll be starting where I have spent a majority of my research time the last two years, in West Texas.
In a sub-series entitled History of Pro Wrestling in West Texas, I'll kick it off with "The West Texas Masked Mystery of 1935" about a match taking place in Amarillo on July 11th, 1935, between two wrestlers both having worked as The Masked Marvel. The West Texas Masked Mystery has been solved, and I will tell the whole story coming out today for our paid subs in the Pro Wrestling Time Tunnel's "Evolution of Pro Wrestling Series" exciting debut!
One Thing I Learned Today About Pro Wrestling History
Tough Tony Borne was one of the leading heels in pro wrestling in the 1950s, especially in Texas on all sides of the state. In West Texas, he was managed by Leo "The Lion" Newman, often the most prominent heel manager until Jack Cain came along. Borne held the Texas Brass Knuckles Title in June of 1960. He made the majority of his reputation from the mid-1960s on in the Pacific Northwest territory.
