One Thing I Learned About Mario Milano
He is at the center of a persistent myth in wrestling lore: that he briefly “won” the WWWF (now WWE) World Heavyweight Championship in a 1971 phantom title change from Ivan Koloff in Philadelphia, supposedly as insurance in case Koloff refused to drop the belt to Pedro Morales. In reality, Milano was wrestling in Australia at the time, and the story likely confuses him with another wrestler, Manuel Soto.
