40 Year Flashback
11-9-1985: On World Championship Wrestling on WTBS, Arn Anderson does an interview that marks the birth of The Four Horsemen heel faction in Jim Crockett Promotions
“What you’ve got right here in the ring, you’ve got a champion. You’ve got Tully Blanchard. You’ve got Ole Anderson. You’ve got myself, and last but by no means least, you’ve got Ric Flair, the world’s heavyweight champion. One Thing I Learned Today About The Four Horsemen
JJ Dillon was not part of the original grouping of the four wrestlers. He was managing “The Nature Boy” Buddy Landel at the time, who was chasing the NWA National Heavyweight Champion, Terry Taylor, which would culminate at Starrcade ‘85. It wasn’t until Landel was fired in mid-December that Dusty put Dillon and Blanchard together in a big angle at the TV tapings in Greensboro right before the Christmas break. Those tapings aired right after the New Year’s holiday in 1986 that JJ began to be associated with the group loosely known as the Four Horsemen.
