Significant Debuts
10-8-1954: Ray Mendoza
Ray Mendoza made his professional wrestling debut on October 8, 1954, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, under the ring name “El Pelón” Chato Díaz. I could not locate his opponent for the match.
10-8-1978: Blue Panther
Blue Panther (real name Genaro Vázquez Nevarez) made his professional wrestling debut in his hometown of Gómez Palacio, Durango, Mexico. He debuted under the ring name El Cachorro. I could not locate his opponent for the match.
10-8-1984: Shawn Michaels lost to Art Crews at the Suddeth Coliseum in Lake Charles, Louisiana
One Thing I Learned Today About Pro Wrestling History
Yvon Robert defeated Wild Bill Longson to win the National Wrestling Association World Heavyweight Championship on the day before his birthday on October 7th, 1942. Robert turned 28, the next day, October 8th. The World Title win (which was actually a unification match) solidified Robert’s legacy as one of the greatest Canadian wrestlers of all time.
