Devil Masami 8-21-1978
Masami Yoshia, otherwise known by her ring name "Devil" Masami was known for her work in All Japan Women's Pro Wrestling, and secondarily in GAEA Japan and JWP Joshi Puroesu.
She began teaming with a wrestler known as Tarantula in 1981, winning the WWWA World Tag Team Championship on August 10th, 1982, and then vacating the titles in early 1983. On April 1st, 1984, she defeated Judy Martin to win the vacated All Pacific Championship.
She then vacated that title on December 12th, 1985, after winning the vacated WWWA World Single Championship in a match against Dump Matsumoto. She lost that title to Yukari Omori in 1986.
On December 26th, 1987, she faced Chigusa Nagayo in her mandatory retirement match when she reached the age of 25. Masami would continue wrestling as a freelance performer shortly after retiring, wrestling for Japan Women's Pro Wrestling and JWP.
Masami continued her career in GAEA Japan from 1995 through 2005, when she started wrestling for All Japan Women's Wrestling. She wrestled in the main event of AJW's Final Card on April 17th, 2005, teaming with Amazing Kong to defeated Kyoke Inoue and Misae Genki.
She retired in 2008 after thirty years in the business and was inducted as a member of the All-Japan Women's Hall of Fame in 1998.
One Thing I Learned Today About Pro Wrestling History
In 1957, Buford Pusser moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he wrestled under the name "Buford the Bull".
