Lonnie "Moondog" Mayne 8-14-1978 at the age of 33
47-Year Flashback Lonnie Mayne Fatal Car Crash & Death Threat TV Interview
8-14-1978: Lonnie Mayne, while driving his vehicle on Riverside Freeway in San Bernadino, California, crossed the meridian late night on August 13th and collided with an oncoming vehicle. He had been scheduled to wrestle at a television taping on August 14th in Sacramento, California. The news of his death did not reach the owner, Roy Shire, who simply assumed Mayne had failed to arrive on time. He had exhibited this behavior in the past. The announcer doing the taping concocted a story that Maybe was in the locker room, enraged and refusing to come out and wrestle.
During the taping, Maybe was booked in a program with Buddy Rose, and they were booked to work together on August 19th, so Rose did an interview threatening Mayne with killing him by the end of their match and they would carry Mayne out of the arena with pallbearers. After they learned that Mayne had died, it was too. late to catch the tape, so it was broadcast in Sacramento with the interview after fans had learned Maybe had died.

Bobby Duncum formed a tough tag team with Dick Murdoch to win the NWA Florida Tag Team Championship in October 1971.
