I will use it...thank you. Please message me any of your 1965 memories of the WWWF for the rest of the year, I'd love to hear them and have them. They've got at least 10 legends on top for 1965, Sammartino, Watts, Monsoon, The Millers, Johnny Valentine, Waldo Von Erich and a couple others.
I remember watching the Watts & Monsoon vs the Millers match highlighted above as it was televised and shown on the WWWF Saturday night show on channel 5 in NYC.
What the article fails to mention is the Millers won the deciding fall and the title when Watts cracked Monsoon over the head with a chair and then left the ring area,
What is significant as well is in addition to giving the belts to the Millers, it started a face-turn for Monsoon who after years of being portrayed as someone who spoke no English suddenly was able to speak quite articulately,
Hey Michael…I looked everywhere for more details on the match and I could only find the article I included from the newspaper in DC the following day. I wish I would have known you before I wrote it, but what’s cool is I now have some details on the match that I didn’t have before from someone who was watching it at the time. Thank you! I’m sure Brian Solomon will discuss this in detail in his book on Monsoon coming out next month but i didn’t want to steal his thunder by asking him about it before his book comes out. What did you think about the match over all? And…do you mind if I mention your account of it in tomorrow’s Chronicle?
